THURSDAY, OCTOBER 7, BROOKLYN -- Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge Gustin Reichbach handed down a verdict of guilty on the most serious count he was considering, murder in the second degree, against Horace Moore, the 22 year old man who stabbed Bus Operator Edwin Thomas to death on his B46 bus in December of 2008. Moore is scheduled to be sentenced on October 19th. The count carries a penalty of between 15 years to life and 25 years to life, according to Brooklyn Assistant District Attorney Julie Rendelman, who prosecuted the case on behalf of the People.
So many transit workers came to hear the verdict delivered that court officers had to move the crowd to a larger courtroom. After the verdict was read, news reporters crowded the second-floor lobby to interview TWU Local 100 President John Samuelsen and the members of the Thomas family, including his son, daughter, and three brothers. After the press conference, the brothers and President Samuelsen made a brief videotaped statement outside of the courthouse.
