TWU Local 100 Rallies to Support Assaulted Train Operator at Court Hearing
Union members rallied on Jay Street before the hearing, with President John V. Chiarello speaking about the need for transit workers to be protected while on the job and those who assault them to be given maximum sentences.
“We’re here to tell the judges and the district attorneys that we want justice. We’re not punching bags. We’re not going to be beat up every day. Enough is enough.”
On Monday, Davalos entered a plea of guilty and accepted a deal that would land him in prison for 15 years with an additional five years of post-release supervision.
The sentencing of Davalos will take place September 24. His 15-year sentence will be the longest given to anyone convicted in an attack on a member of transit since Horace Moore was sent to prison for 20 years to life after his conviction for murdering Bus Operator Edwin Thomas in 2008.
